Promises and lies - an iPad Air keyboard cover that over-promises and under-delivers

Promises, Promises.  That's what the ads and the reviews touted about the new

ZAGG Slim Book Case Ultrathin Hinged with Detachable Backlit Keyboard for iPad Air 2.

I found what I thought would be the perfect keyboard and protective cover for my new iPad Air 2 on Amazon.  There were already many reviews in February 2015 when I purchased the cover and they were all raving about how fabulous the keyboard cover was!  The fact that it was DETACHABLE was the icing on the cake.  I could now use the iPad screen by itself when I wanted to read a book or surf/play games (not that I play games very often).  Then I could re-attach the keyboard and type away on research or articles for work.  Life was great until a problem occurred a few weeks ago when using the keyboard case.  The case has a nice magnetic hinge built in to it that allows the upper screen portion to snap on and off the lower keyboard portion.  The magnets hold on wonderfully even if the unit is upside down.  The problem is that when I would push the top portion up to view the screen with the keyboard attached there was some resistance in the hinge mechanism.  This resistance got worse as time wore on and eventually the keyboard would snap out when lifting the screen.  This was a little annoying because I kept having to pull the screen portion off the magnetic hinge and pry the hinge back so I could replace the screen into the hinge in order to view the screen and use the keyboard.  My favorite gadget and I coexisted, even with the hinge problem, very nicely until this week.  This morning at work I pulled the screen up (manually so the hinge would not pop) to type an email on the keyboard and noticed that the every time I touched the screen it would fall off the back of the keyboard.  After some examination I noticed that the little square notches on the screen portion were cracked and not holding to the case/magnetic hinge any longer.  I contacted Zagg (after registering) and informed them of my woeful story.  Hopefully they will do something but even if I get a new one the hinge will not last long unless I am very careful with it - i.e., remove the screen from the keyboard, adjust the hinge, and re-install the screen onto the keyboard every time I want to use the contraption (yes, it is just a contraption now, the thrill is gone as Chuck Berry would say... ).
